Muslims in the country and globally yesterday celebrated Eid-ul-Adha, otherwise known as feast of sacrifice.

The Muslim festival marks the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca and the famous sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim.

A statement signed by former President Jerry John Rawlings and wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, expressed solidarity with Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of the Eid ul-Adha Festival.

“As we recognise the selfless sacrifice of Ibrahim that inspires the annual celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, let’s embrace love, care and the desire to pursue a positive agenda for our communities,” they stated.

Mr and Mrs Rawlings prayed that the celebration would be marked with a quest to seek Allah’s blessings as Ghana aspires to rid itself of the difficulties that confront society.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a statement said the celebration was more importantly a day for Muslims to reflect on their sacrifices, first of all, to their Maker, fellow humans and to society at large.

The party called on Muslims to use the solemn occasion to pray for the nation and in particular, “our hardworking President, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, and his government.”

The statement, signed by Mr John Boadu, acting General Secretary of the NPP, further called on Muslims to manifest the virtue which underpins the commemoration of Eid-ul-Adha and renew their covenant with Almighty Allah.

“Again, as much as we acknowledge the fact that there is every reason for Muslims to celebrate this day even with pomp and circumstances, the NPP also admonishes all Muslims, especially the youth, to be cautious of excessive celebration which may occasion some unpleasant spectacles.

“We are appealing for moderation and circumspection in the celebration,” the statement added.

NDC greets Muslims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also congratulated Muslims in Ghana and the world all over on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

“We extend warm felicitation to you as you celebrate this all-important Feast of Sacrifice, an occasion which you have consistently observed to ask for Allah’s blessings for mankind,” the NDC stated.

A statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, stated that the prayers and sacrifices of Muslims had yielded positive results, culminating in the peace, stability, unity and development in the country.

“Your dedication and commitment to prayers have equally accounted for the peaceful co-existence among all faiths in the country,” it added.

The NDC commended Muslims for the sacrifices and prayers for the nation and urged them not to relent in efforts to educate and create awareness of the relevance of democracy among people of the Islamic faith.

“That would enable the nation to reap full dividend in the country’s quest to consolidate its gains in democracy which has earned her recognition among the comity of nations,” it stated.
