Kadjebi NCCE organises debate for parliamentary candidates
The Kadjebi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the European Union, has organised a debate for parliamentary candidates in the Akan Constituency at Dodi-Papase in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region.

The programme was aimed at providing a platform for the candidates to interact with the public and solicit commitments from them to engage in issues-based campaigning.
Issue based campaign
The Kadjebi District Director of the NCCE, Mr Daniel Agbesi Latsu, appealed to the aspirants in the December polls to commit themselves to an issues-based campaign, devoid of insults and name-calling even if they were provoked by opponents, in order to sustain the prevailing peace in the country.
Mr Latsu stated: “Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. In the midst of all provocations; let’s stop, think and then act in a transformative manner.”
He added that it was ill-fated that democracy “which connotes a system of government based on freedom and equality among people” should mean hurling insults at one another, including the leaders of the country.
He said as the nation continued with a period of electioneering by the various parties, it was key to remind and encourage political parties and functionaries to uphold the peace and tranquilcty in the country and also to see the need to conduct an issues-based campaign devoid of vitriolic attacks on personalities or political opponents.
“We need to remain united with a common goal of ensuring peace in the country before, during and after the December polls,” he said.
Mr Latsu added that “being tolerant and respecting the rights of others is an important aspect of our civilisation as people in this 21st century.”
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency, Mr Joseph Kwadwo Ofori, appealed to the electorate to vote for him to enable him to finish his development projects.
He mentioned the projects as the construction of a district police headquarters and roads from Asato through Gyamonome to Wawaso and the construction of CHPS compound at Dzindziso and a three-unit class room block for the Olombobi Primary School, among others.
Mr Ofori said he used part of his share of the DACF for a six-unit pavilion classrooms at Kadjebi E.P Primary Cluster of schools, Pampawie R.C Primary and Asato R.C Primary Schools.
He has also distributed 39 computers to 10 schools in the district to enhance the pupils’ knowledge in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT), among others.
The All People’s Congress (APC) parliamentary candidate for Akan Constituency, Mr Jonathan Tetteh, called on the constituents to vote on issues rather than material things.
Mr.Tetteh said when given the nod, he would institute a scholarship scheme for brilliant, needy students in the district to enable them to attend school without any problem.
He would also engage the youth in rabbit and snail rearing for them to earn a living.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Akan Constituency, Mr Aziz Muniru, said although not an MP, he had already helped 2000 people acquire employable skills and would continue when given the nod.
Mr Muniru said he had also repaired six boreholes.
The parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kofi Adjei Ntim, did not show up.
