I’m not contesting for personal interest— Stephen Ntim

AS the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for congress to elect national officers later in the year, a national chairman aspirant, Mr Stephen Ntim, has disclosed that he is not contesting the slot for personal interest or gains.

“I will be in the NPP national chairman race because of the grassroots, not self-gain”, he indicated.

Throwing more light on why he will be contesting the chairmanship, the former First National Vice Chairman of the party revealed: “I will be running because of the grassroots members and nothing more…they are calling on me saying it is my time to lead the party as national chairman.”

“They have worked with me a number of times as First National Vice Chairman of the party and in many capacities. They know what I can do for them”, the three times national chairman aspirant told the Daily Graphic in a telephone interview yesterday.
Middle belt sector coordinator

He told the Daily Graphic that after losing elections for the national chairmanship, he had no bitter feelings and rather continued to serve the party to the best of his ability till victory was won in the 2016 elections.

Mr Ntim, who was also the Middle belt sector coordinator of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential primary election in 2014, indicated that the massive support the NPP got from the settler communities further gave credence to his strength in grassroot mobilisation.

“I have continuously remained the unsung hero within the party, never blowing my own trumpet but always soldering on for the party despite the challenges and disappointments,” he added.

Rumours

He also diffused rumours making the rounds, that he had taken a back seat in NPP activities.

“This is not true. I am doing a lot behind the scenes. That is my way of politicking”, the national chairman aspirant stated and appealed to NPP delegates to consider him as their national chairman when the time was due.

Appeal to NPP

“My humble appeal to NPP delegates across the country is that they should not forget their brother Stephen Ntim”, he said.

Already, three other stalwarts of the party have declared their intention to contest the slot. They include acting National Chairman of the party, Mr Freddie Blay.
