Dr Ezenator Agyemang Rawlings' membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been at the centre of discussion among party functionaries in the Klottey Korle Constituency from the very first day she made public her desire to contest the seat on the ticket of the ruling party.

Although the controversy surrounding Ezenator’s membership has been put to rest, she has explained her involvement in ‘Akatamanso’ activities.
Speaking on Neat FM, Ezenator maintained that she had been a member of the party since the 1990s.
“I was part of the party when it started in 1992. The only issue is that I could not register as a member because I had not attained the voting age. I was present at all major campaigns during that time. Actually, I have pictures of me wearing NDC T-shirts during the 1990s. I will make them available,” she told Neat FM.
The daughter of former President John Jerry Rawlings was on Thursday cleared by the leadership of the ruling NDC to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Ezenator cleared
The controversy surrounding the membership of Dr Ezenator Agyemang Rawlings was put to rest on Thursday when she was cleared by the leadership of the ruling NDC to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
The constituency executive members were sharply divided as to whether she was a card-bearing member of the ‘umbrella’ family.
While some were of the view that she should be given the chance to contest, others insisted she was a stranger in the constituency because she was not a card-bearing member of the NDC.
The discussion was temporarily put to rest when the Constituency Youth Organiser, Charles Gben, came to her rescue by revealing that she was a card-bearing member of the party.
Ezenator, he said, took part in party activities and paid her contributions to the Ridge Church branch, Ring Way Ward of the NDC.
“She bears a party card and belongs to a branch in the constituency. She pays her dues and that means that she is a recognised party member in the constituency,” he stated in an interview on Kasapa 102.3 FM.
Chances boosted
Ezenator’s chance of beating the incumbent, Nii Armah Ashitey, also an ‘Akatamansonian,’ was further given a boost when the national executive cleared her to contest the race.
An elated Ezenator told Kasapa News moments after her vetting that “It went very well. I think that the biggest issue was whether I had a membership card and I presented it. So, that puts a lot of minds at ease. I have been cleared and we are going to do the balloting to know my position on the ballot paper.”
The NDC is expected to go to the polls in November to decide on candidates for the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
