Group calls for calm in acceptance of Hajia Ayishetu as MCE for Savelugu-Nanton

A group calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Savelugu-Nanton Municipality in the Northern Region has appealed for calm in the municipality and the acceptance of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

That, in the view of the group, would ensure peace and development of the municipality.

The appeal by the group came a day after a group of irate youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) locked out Hajia Ayishetu, preventing her from starting work and also as a means to press home their demand for her removal as the MCE for the municipality.

At a press conference held at the assembly hall of the Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Assembly last Friday to make the appeal, the group also suggested the use of dialogue to resolve the differences to enable Hajia Ayishetu to start work as the MCE for the area for the smooth implementation of the policies and programmes of the ruling NPP government.

The spokesperson of the group and Nanton Constituency NPP Communication Officer, Mr Alhassan Abdul Lateef, who read the statement on behalf of the group, pleaded with all indigenes and residents of Savelugu-Nanton, dissenting groups within the NPP and all well-meaning partners to consider the development of Savelugu-Nanton above all other interests.

Recognition

According to the group, Hajia Ayishetu was duly confirmed by the representatives of the people in the area, the elected men and women of the assembly, hence per the democratic order of practice, she was the legitimate representative of the central government.

“The President proposed her but we did the confirmation, thus we agreed to work with her. It will, therefore, be unfair to make a U-turn at this point, especially without following due process,” the group noted.

“As ordinary members of this local government area, we have committed to make it known that the needless dragging of matters will not affect the person and personality of the confirmed MCE, but the entirety of the municipality,” it stated.

The group further called on traditional authorities, religious leaders, party executives and supporters, youth groups and all well-meaning stakeholders in Savelugu-Nanton to let calm and understanding prevail, accept the confirmation of the MCE in good faith and help her advance the development agenda of the municipality.
