The running mate to the presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the December elections, Nana Akosua Sarpong Frimpomaa, has appealed to the government to institute pro-poor programmes for persons who find it difficult to cater for their children in school.
She said the government should, as part of its social responsibility, ensure that interventions were put in place to help cater for the needs and aspirations of Ghanaian children.
Nana Frimpomaa, who is also the Chief Executive of Caring Kids, an international non-governmental organisation, explained that children, as the future leaders of Ghana, needed to have a firm foundation academically to perform that role.
“The state, therefore, needs to invest in the future of the nation through empowerment of children and ensure that no child is left behind in education. This we must do and there should be no excuse,” she said in a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
She asked corporate bodies and parliamentarians to assist those who could not afford to ensure that their children went through education to at least the senior high school level.
“Parliament should take a critical look at the plight of the Ghanaian child and find a lasting solution to it. Let’s find a way to solve the problems once and for all,” Nana Frimpomaa said. -GNA
