Suame NDC youth protest disqualification of Mr Boahen

Some aggrieved supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) last Sunday, went on a demonstration in the Suame Constituency to protest the disqualification of a parliamentary aspirant.

The NDC vetting committee for the constituency, led by Mr Alban Sumanu Bagbin, the NDC Member for Nadowli/Kaleo, last Tuesday disqualified Mr Emmanuel Boahen on grounds that he (aspirant) allegedly faked his membership card of the party.

It thus left the other aspirant, Mr Francis Dodovi, to be declared unopposed.

Reaction

But the youth, in a sharp reaction, hit the streets and gave the party leadership a one-week warning to reverse the decision.

They said failure to reverse the decision will compel them to vote skirt and blouse in next year's elections.

The group argued that Mr Boahen had been an active member of the party and had been in good standing since 2015.

Petition

They presented their petition to the Constituency Chairman, Seeba Mohammed Zeeba, who promised to forward it to the appropriate quarters for action.

The leader of the group, Mr Isaac Peprah, who is the Branch Chairman for Osei Kwadwo B of the party at Breman said, “Emmanuel Boahen is active member of the party at Breman.

"I registered him and issued him with a party card in my branch and since then, he has never defaulted in the payment of his dues," he told journalists.

He alleged that the party regional executive members were in bed with Mr Dodovi and did everything just to favour him.

"If Dodovi is scared of a sheep (Mr Boahen), how will he conquer the lion, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the New Patriotic Party candidate?” he asked.
