Speaker urges chiefs to prioritise education

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, has advised chiefs to prioritise the education of their people since it is the key to development.

He said the era of guns were over and that education was the means by which nations, towns and communities attained development.

Professor Oquaye said this when the new Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Pe Asagepari II, accompanied by members of the Navrongo Traditional Council, called on him at Parliament House.

Appreciation

The visit was to thank the Speaker, Members and staff of Parliament for their support during the bereavement of the Paramount Chief, following the death of his father, whom he succeeded, as well as his installation as the new Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area.

He, therefore, advised the chiefs and people of the Navrongo Traditional Area to take advantage of the Free Senior High School policy and the School Feeding Programme by sending all their children, especially the girls, to school.

Professor Oquaye called on the youth to respect their elders in the communities and that those who disrespected their leaders always had problems with the leadership.

He said chiefs were the custodians of the customs, the ideas, beliefs, values and traditions of the people.

Peace and stability

He, therefore, urged the new paramount chief to ensure peace and stability in his traditional area to make his people proud.

Pe Dr Pwakwa Manchi, the Divisional Chief of Manyoro, and spokesperson of the Navrongo Traditional Council, expressed the gratitude of the traditional council to the Speaker and Parliament for the support they provided to the new Paramount Chief before and during his installation.

He said the Navrongo Traditional Council was deeply touched by the support from the Speaker and Leadership of the House.

The new Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area is known in private life as Pe Dennis Aneakwoa Belinia Adda and was a Fire Service Officer stationed at Parliament House from 2000 to2018 before his enskinment as Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area. — GNA
