Retain Damptey as DCE - Birim North chiefs appeal to President

A group of chiefs in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region has expressed confidence in the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Raymond Nana Damptey, and appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to retain him for the next four years.

That, according to the chiefs, would enable the DCE to complete his development agenda for the area.

The chiefs made the call at a press conference in reaction to an earlier one by some other chiefs calling on the President not to renominate Mr Damptey for a second term for his alleged disrespect to the chiefs in the area.

Ignore

However, reading a press statement on behalf of his other colleague chiefs, the Akyem Nkwatenghene, Nana Amanie Ankrah II, urged the President not to heed the call of the other group of chiefs led by the Abiremhene, Obrempong Kwasi Amo Tweretwie I, calling for the removal of Nana Damptey.

He said Mr Damptey had worked closely with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr John Osei Frimpong, for the development of the communities.

He explained that if Mr Damptey had been disrespectful to Nananom as they claimed, per the customs and tradition, they should have invited him to be queried or warned for any offence to serve as a deterrent to others.

False allegations

Reacting to the earlier press conference on Tuesday, May 18, which called on the President not to renominate him for the post of DCE, Mr Damptey told the Daily Graphic that all the allegations levelled against him were false.

He indicated that when considered for a second term, he would work with all the chiefs, including those opposing his renomination.
