The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened nominations for its constituency executive elections nationwide, with the exercise expected to end tomorrow.
A statement signed by the party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the elections would be conducted at Constituency Delegates Conferences in accordance with the party's constitution.
It said Constituency Elections Committees (CECs) had been established across the country to supervise the nomination, vetting and election processes.
The exercise began yesterday, and it is scheduled to end on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Polls
The constituency executive elections have been scheduled for July 2026, and at least one-third of delegates must be present to form a quorum.
The polls form part of the NPP's internal reorganisation process ahead of the party's next national delegates conference and preparations for future national elections.
The exercise will elect constituency officers, including chairmen, vice-chairmen, secretaries, organisers, treasurers, women organisers, youth organisers, Nasara organisers and communications officers.
The date for the elections is expected to be announced after the completion of nominations and vetting.
Eligibility requirements
The statement said aspirants must be registered party members in the constituency in which they intend to contest, be members in good standing and have actively participated in party activities for at least two years.
It added that candidates seeking election as Constituency Secretary, Research Officer and Electoral Affairs Officer must possess at least a diploma qualification.
The party further indicated that members of the Constituency Elections Committees would not be eligible to contest unless they resigned and were replaced.
Nomination fees
The NPP fixed the nomination fee for the position of Constituency Chairman at GH¢1,500, while First and Second Vice-Chairmanship aspirants would pay GH¢1,000 each.
Candidates contesting all other positions are required to pay GH¢500.
The statement said nomination forms could be obtained from constituency offices or downloaded from the party's website, with payments made through the party's online portal.
Appeals process
To address electoral disputes, the party has constituted Constituency Appeals Committees to hear petitions from aggrieved aspirants and members.
The committees are expected to determine petitions within 48 hours, while further appeals may be lodged with the Regional Steering Committee and subsequently the National Steering Committee, whose decision shall be final.
The statement added that the Electoral Commission would conduct the elections under the supervision of the Constituency Elections Committees in line with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
