NDC gets ready for parliamentary primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will from July 10 to July 12, this year, open its nominations for the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2020 election.

Party members willing to contest for the parliamentary primaries must hail from the constituency where they want to contest or be a resident of the place for an accumulative period of five years within the last 10 years.

Additionally, interested persons must be an active member of the party for at least four years and must not be a member of any other party.

Furthermore, executive members at the constituency, regional and national levels are not qualified to contest unless they resign from their positions.

Picking of forms

Addressing a press conference in Accra yesterday, the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said interested and qualified party members willing to contest for the parliamentary slot on the ticket of the NDC were required to pick up forms at the party’s constituency offices in all the regions.

The press conference was to outdoor the modalities and regulations for the party’s parliamentary elections
The cost of the forms, he said, had been fixed at GH¢2000 with the filing fees fixed at GH¢35,000 for all contestants except female and

Persons with Disability (PWDs) who were to pay GH¢17,500.

The election for the parliamentary primaries has been fixed for August 24, this year.

Procedure

Mr Nketia said the filing of the nomination would be done on July 18 and July 19, this year.

After filing of the nomination, he said, the party would process and review the documents to pave the way for nominees to modify certain details that might occur as a result of procedural errors.

In Mr Nketia’s explanation, the party “does not disqualify people as a result of simple procedural errors except fraudulently done.”

Vetting, he said, would take place on July 24 and 25, this year, at the party’s constituency offices while appeal for decision would be allowed from July 29 and 30, 2019.

Endorsement

He said interested persons willing to contest must receive an endorsement from one executive party member and seconded by another leading member of the party in addition to a branch executive member of the constituency an aspirant was standing to contest.
