NDC Constituency elections: 15,000 To vie for key positions

About 15,000 aspirants are expected to contest for positions in the constituency executive elections of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 276 constituencies across the country on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The elections form part of the party’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election, and will determine the leadership of its structures at the constituency level.

The NDC Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in an interview, saying there would be no contest in the Juabeso and Banda constituencies in the Western North and Bono East regions, respectively, as the executives in those constituencies were going unopposed.

He said the Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region would hold its elections on Friday, October 23, a day ahead of the nationwide exercise, because of other activities that would clash with the scheduled date.

He explained that the national party had approved the change to enable the constituency to conduct its elections without disruption.

Positions

The aspirants are seeking various constituency executive positions, including chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, organiser, deputy organiser, communications officer, women’s organiser and youth organiser, among other positions provided for under the party’s structure.

Mr Jibril said the elections would be conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), in collaboration with the party’s election committees in the 276 constituencies, while the Ghana Police Service would be responsible for security on election days.

The exercise is expected to produce constituency executives who will manage the party’s affairs at the grassroots level and coordinate its political and organisational activities.

Mr Jibril said the constituency elections would be followed by the regional executive elections on November 14 and 15, 2026.

He said per the party’s timetable, nominations for regional executive positions opened on October 6 and closed on October 7 with filing of nominations scheduled for October 14 and 15, followed by vetting on October 16 and 17 and appeals on October 19 and 20.

The regional elections will be preceded by the Regional Youth and Women Conference on November 13.

National congress

Mr Jibril said the process would culminate in the party’s National Congress on December 19, 2026, when national executive officers would be elected.

He stated that nominations for national executive positions are scheduled to open on October 20 and close on October 21, adding that aspirants will have 14 days to complete their forms before filing nominations from November 7 to 9.

The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections said vetting is scheduled for November 12 and 13, while appeals will be heard on November 15 and 16.

The National Youth and Women Conference is scheduled for December 12.

He said the elections are part of the NDC’s broader reorganisation programme to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level ahead of the 2028 general election.
