Let’s keep cohesion, tranquillity of country — District Coordinating Director

The Awutu-Senya West District Coordinating Director, Eunice Naalier, has urged the electorate to protect the cohesion, peace and tranquillity in the constituency.

Being an election year, she stressed the need for the constituents to come together for the development of the area.

In an interview at Awutu Bereku in the Central Region, Madam Naalier urged Ghanaians not to take the democracy they are enjoying for granted.

Defend democracy

She stressed the need for Ghanaians to uphold and defend the country’s democracy with courage and continuously strive to make it more inclusive, just and prosperous.

“Let us go beyond the festivities and pageantry, recommit ourselves to the values that underpin the country’s democracy, patriotism, tolerance, the rule of law and the pursuit of social justice, join hands, hearts and mind to rebuild a stronger, more united Ghana, a notion that is truly a source of pride for all its citizens,” she stated.

She said Ghana’s democracy was not merely a system of governance, adding that it was an embodiment of the struggles, sacrifices and unwavering determination of the forebears who fought tirelessly to break the shackles of colonialism and build a nation founded on the principles of freedom, justice and equality.

Madam Naalier said it was through the forebears’ relentless pursuit of justice and unwavering commitment to self-governance that they etched their names in the annals of the country’s history.

“As we stand tall as a sovereign nation, a shining beacon of democracy in Africa, we have a vibrant constitution that guarantees fundamental right and freedoms, holding regular elections, ensuring peaceful transfer of power,” she said.

Civic responsibility

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Awutu, Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, said everyone had a civic responsibility towards the total development of the country.

She said more importantly the students and the pupils must seriously concentrate on their books to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills to become patriotic citizens in the country.

She assured the constituents of her continuous support and work towards improvement of educational standard in the district.
