A private legal practitioner, Dennis Ofori-Asiedu, has pledged to build a more formidable and attractive National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oti Region if elected Regional Secretary.
Mr Ofori-Asiedu, who is also a member of the NDC National Communications Team, was last Saturday successfully vetted to contest the NDC Oti Regional Secretary position, securing the first spot on the ballot paper.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic after his vetting, he said his decision to serve the NDC as the Oti Regional Secretary was based on his dedication to service, having served the party in various capacities, spanning more than two decades.
Grass roots
He said as a grass-roots operator, communicator and a lawyer, he was committed to building an effective regional secretariat that would ensure that members of the party and the general public continued to have confidence in the NDC as the political party that truly had the country’s interests at heart.
“We will have an open door policy and give a listening ear to all stakeholders, especially the members at the constituencies and branch levels to address their concerns and take their inputs,” he said.
Lawyer Ofori-Asiedu recounted his many years of service to the party and said he had the needed experience, insight and competence to propel the NDC to further greater heights in the Oti Region.
“Oti is a very important region for the NDC as well as the national development of this country, and the party requires some level of infusion of experience, commitment and a unifying figure that can run an effective secretariat for tremendous success. I believe I am that person,” he added.
On how he intended to build an effective secretariat if he finds favour with the delegates, he said he would adhere to transparent leadership and build a well-structured secretariat based on the principles of the NDC.
Attractive NDC
Lawyer Ofori-Asiedu explained that his vision when elected as the Oti Regional Secretary was to make the NDC more attractive to the general public, especially the youth.
He said the NDC, despite its sterling performance in government, must continue to reorient itself to ensure that it continues to be the political party of choice for the people, especially the youth.
“Politics and political party membership are generational. So the whole idea is to ensure that the party is appealing to all segments of society, especially the youth and future leaders.
We want to make the NDC attractive at all times within the Oti Region,” he added.
Elections
The governing NDC commenced the process for its internal elections, ranging from the constituency to the national level, from September this year, with the constituency elections expected to be held on October 24 and 25, 2026, regional elections taking place on the 14th and 15th of November and the National Congress for the election of National Officers happening on the 19th of December.
