Integrity key to building nation — Yilo Krobo MCE

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Francis Akumatey Addo, has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, accountability, patriotism and hard work, saying the nation's development cannot be built on corruption, dishonesty, indiscipline and apathy.

He said the Ghana citizens aspired to build must be founded on respect for one another, commitment to the common good and a strong sense of civic responsibility.

"As leaders and citizens, we all have a responsibility to contribute positively to nation-building. Let us, therefore, embrace a culture of honesty, service, tolerance and civic responsibility," he said.

Mr Addo made the remarks at this year's National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving celebration held at the Church of Pentecost Central Assembly in Somanya last Wednesday.

The event was on the theme: "Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want."

The Clergy offered prayers for the President, the Legislature, the Judiciary, as well as the Municipal Chief Executive and staff of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly.

Lead by example

Mr Addo said it had become imperative for adults to lead by example and inspire the younger generation to become responsible citizens capable of driving the country's development.

He stressed that inculcating values such as honesty, discipline and patriotism among the youth was essential to securing Ghana's future.

Development agenda

The MCE said the municipality had recorded significant progress in various sectors through the collective efforts of government, traditional authorities, religious bodies, civil society organisations and community leaders.

He, however, noted that much more remained to be done and called on all residents to support the development agenda of the municipality.

"The development we seek requires not only resources but also a transformation of mindsets and a commitment to doing what is right, even when no one is watching," he said.

Exhortation

The Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, Rev. Eric Teye Kau, in a brief exhortation, urged residents to remain obedient to the voice of God if they desired progress for both the municipality and the nation.

He said spiritual renewal and adherence to godly values were indispensable to national development.

The programme was attended by traditional leaders, Clergy, members of various churches, teachers, schoolchildren and members of the public.
