Help set up Parliamentarians association in Ghana - Federation appeals to Speaker

The National Coordinator of the Universal Peace Federation- Ghana, Dr Mrs Helen Osei, has called for the establishment of a Ghana chapter of the International Association of Members of Parliament (MPs) for Peace (IAPP).

The International Association of MPs for Peace is an international network of parliamentarians created to take on crucial issues of territorial disputes, religious conflicts, climate change, violent extremism and poverty through the common solidarity and cooperation of the parliamentarians of the world.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, she said attempts were made during the seventh Parliament but it could not see the light of day.

She said the association helped to promote the development of humankind along the path of coexistence and mutual prosperity for future generations.

Dr Mrs Osei, who led a delegation of the Universal Peace Federation-Ghana to call on the Speaker, therefore, appealed to Mr Bagbin to help push for the establishment of the association in Ghana to promote peace and development.

Dedication

Mr Bagbin commended the federation for its dedication to building a world of peace centered on universal spiritual and moral values.

He tasked the protocol department of Parliament to ensure that all necessary structures were put in place to advertise the association for members when the second meeting of the first session of the 8th Parliament commenced.

Peace, he said, could only exist when justice prevailed in any society.

Mr Bagbin, therefore, charged the federation and its leadership to do more to promote global dialogue and mutual coexistence.
