Ghana has moved on from stagnation — Akufo-Addo

Ghana has moved on to a better future and not turning back to an era of stagnation, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.

The President, who was responding to some remarks made by the former President John Dramani Mahama that God brought the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government so that Ghanaians could appreciate the achievements of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said Ghanaians no longer wanted stagnation but progress.

“So Ghanaians want stagnation not progress; they want high inflation, not low inflation. Ghanaians want the unemployed graduate association, they don’t want Nation Builders Corps (NABCO). They want poor agriculture and not Planting for Food and Jobs; no new industries rather than one district, one factory,” he quizzed rhetorically.

Durbar

At a well-attended durbar of chiefs and people of Ketu South in Aflao as part of his tour of the Volta Region, President Nana Akufo-Addo opened fire on the NDC, especially its flag bearer, saying they were ‘still asleep’ and, therefore, could not know the progressive direction the country was moving.

“The people who were asleep when they were in a comfortable lead only to wake up to find that the country has rejected them, are still asleep. They will not wake up and see that Ghana has moved on,” he indicated.

The NDC, he said, had no future policies for the country but only spewed negativities against government policies.
The President said when the opposition NDC was in office, on the average, about 100,000 junior high school students stayed at home every year because their parents were poor and, therefore, could not afford their secondary education.

However, the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme had relieved parents of such burden.

The various flagship programmes of the government, including NABCO, Planting for Food and Jobs, and One district, One factory had brought hope to the people.

He expressed optimism that those policies would keep the NDC in opposition for a longer period.

Rousing welcome for President

The President received a rousing welcome at the Ketu South municipality as he was mobbed by the hundreds of people who thronged the durbar.
