An aspiring National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah, has stated that delegates to the party’s national delegates conference must elect officers with selfless character to position the party for the 2028 elections.
He said such people must put the party and its members first.
“Such a leader must have a mindset of fairness and transparency that makes people feel they belong,” he said.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic on why he was contesting for the position of Vice Chairman, Mr Abankwah-Yeboah, who served as a two-term national treasurer of the NPP, said he would be bringing on board experience, transparent and accountable leadership.
The NPP’s National Executive Election is scheduled for October 3, 2026, when delegates will elect new national officers as the party seeks to reorganise ahead of the 2028 general election.

He said the party needed to rebuild trust among its supporters and resolve its internal challenges before it could effectively challenge the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections.
He explained that the party’s 2024 electoral defeat exposed deep dissatisfaction among sections of the party’s support base, which must be addressed through a comprehensive reorganisation.
“The two million of our people who did not show up to vote were not based on the economy,” he said.
Mr Abankwah-Yeboah noted that many supporters were unhappy with some decisions taken by the party and had consequently lost confidence in its leadership.
He said the party’s ongoing reorganisation must, therefore, focus on restoring confidence and bringing disaffected members back into the fold.
“We have continued to do so by reorganising the party and getting leadership in place because all is based on trust,” he said.
He said the party could resolve its internal difficulties if its new leadership was prepared to listen to members, involve them in decision-making and provide credible leadership.
Mr Abankwah-Yeboah said the quest for party unity should not be an empty slogan but called for hard work and a non-discriminatory attitude.
He pledged to run an open-door administration, unite the party faithful, help rebuild the party structures and “stand firmly behind the national chairman to work tirelessly to restore hope and trust, which are essential for victory in 2028”.
He said restoring confidence among the grassroots would be critical to the NPP’s efforts to rebuild its support base and return to government in 2028.
