Birim Central gets new MCE
A 58-year old headmistress of El-Shadai Junior High School at Akyem Oda, Ms Victoria Adu has been confirmed as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central in the Eastern Region.
All the 26 assembly members present at the ceremony voted yes to give Ms Adu, who is currently the Women’s Organiser of the Oda Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) and a government appointed assembly member of the municipal assembly, 100 per cent endorsement.

Ms Adu replaced the outgoing MCE, Mr Kwabena Ankomah Bempong , who resigned recently due to ill health.
Dignitaries
The grand ceremony attracted many dignitaries including the Senior Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour , his deputy, Mr. Samuel N. Aryetey, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Oda , Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, the National Women’s Organiser of the Ms Kate Gyamfua and the Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh.
Also in attendance were a host of Municipal and District Chief Executives, the clergy, traditional rulers and members of the Zongo community.
Congratulation
Speaking at the function, Mr Osafo- Maafo congratulated Madam Adu for her appointment and overwhelming endorsement and urged her to justify the position by working hard to transform the municipality for the better.
“Your appointment is to enhance women empowerment in the area in particular and Ghana in general,” he stressed.
Avoid discrimination
Mr Osafo-Maafo advised Ms Adu not to discriminate in the discharge of her duties, but should bring the entire people in the municipality together to contribute their quota towards the rebuilding of the area.
He told the new MCE that her outstanding performance would enable her to retain her position when the MMCDCEs were elected in June/July, 2021.
The Regional Minister, Mr Darfour called on the assembly members, the core staff of the assembly, the traditional authorities and the citizenly to give the new MCE their maximum support and cooperation to ensure the success of her administration.
Mr Quaittoo said Ms Adu deserved her position as she had served the municipality in several capacities for a long time.
The Korntihene, Obrempong Saforo Kyereh was full of praise for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for providing the traditional area with many development projects.
He entreated Ms Adu to liaise with all government officials and traditional rulers in the area to bring the needed development to the municipality.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Faith Amedzate, who led a team to supervise the election, was happy about the peaceful and successful conduct of the polls.
In her acceptance speech, Ms Adu thanked the President, the NPP executives at the national, regional and constituency levels, as well as the assembly members for her nomination and endorsement and promised to prove equal to the task ahead.
