The two are Daniel Anania Atampuba for the Bawku West District and Ali Haruna for the Garu District.

At the end of the election in Bawku West, Mr Atampuba secured 46 out of 48 total valid votes cast, representing 96 per cent at the end of the first round of voting, while in Garu, Mr Haruna polled 13 out of 19 votes, representing 68.4 per cent of total votes cast.

They replace Messrs Tahiru Issahaku Ahmed and Musah Osman who were recently sacked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Maiden addresses

In his maiden speech, Mr Atampuba thanked the assembly members for the overwhelming endorsement as the next DCE for the area and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by President Akufo-Addo and assembly members.

He promised an open-door administration intending to bring the district assembly to the doorsteps of the people, saying “I will ensure that the people feel part of the local administration”.

“Despite the short period left before the next election, I will discharge my duties diligently to bring the needed development across the district for the ultimate benefit of the people,” he said.

For his part, Mr Haruna thanked the assembly members and other stakeholders for his confirmation and promised to work closely with them to improve the lives of the people.

He stressed that the endorsement of his nomination demonstrated the need for collaboration and cooperation among all parties to drive the transformation of the area, saying “As a people, we must always put aside political differences and work towards the progress of the district.

 Need support

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, called for support for the new DCEs to excel in their portfolio.

“Undoubtedly, the new appointees require the support of all to realise the shared vision of the districts,” he said.

He charged the DCEs to offer the required leadership that would rally everyone to come on board towards the effective implementation and execution of the government’s policies and programmes.
