Asuogyaman DCE assures traders of govt support
The Asuogyaman District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Samuel Kwame Agyekum, has assured traders that the assembly will not discriminate against any kind of business but will rather ensure that they are supported for their businesses to grow to promote the development of the local economy.
He said the assembly would ensure that the economy grew to make the people more comfortable, and that was why they (the traders and business owners) must also play their part by supporting government programmes in the district.

He made the remarks when he presented raincoats to support the ‘abolo’ and bread sellers at Atimpoku who are part of the Atimpoku Traders Association in the Asuogyaman District.
The DCE said the ‘abolo’ and bread sellers at Atimpoku also contributed significantly to the development of the local economy in the district through their payment of tolls and it was equally important for the assembly to support them with the raincoats to enable them to go about their activities during the rainy season without any hindrance.
He said the assembly was aware of how they suffered during the rainy season to sell their products, and that was why the assembly saw the need to do something about their plight, hence the presentation of the raincoats to alleviate their suffering.
MASLOC
Mr Agyekum assured the traders that very soon, access to financial support would be made available to them through the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to enable them to boost their petty trading and also expand their businesses.
He, however, advised them to ensure that they used the money for the intended purposes when they got it and also ensure that they paid it back for other traders to access.
He explained that the fund was a revolving one that should go around and anybody who would keep the money he/she would receive without paying back would be depriving other beneficiaries from also enjoying the loan facility, and that would not augur well for the fund.
The DCE said the assembly was ready to receive suggestions and pieces of advice from the general public in the district to enhance the development of the area and assured them of an open administration, adding that: “Come to us if you have anything good that will promote the assembly and the entire district.”
Lack of capital
The Leader of the Atimpoku Traders Association, Ms Mercy Mansah Agbetorwu, who received the items, thanked the assembly and the DCE for the gesture.
She said most of the sellers and other petty traders in the district lacked adequate capital for their trading and businesses and appealed to the DCE to help expedite action on the MASLOC loans for them to be relieved.
The DCE was accompanied by the Asuogyaman District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr David Sosu, and other officials from the district assembly.
