All political parties must condemn secessionists —NPP
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has challenged all political parties in the country to unreservedly condemn the actions of the secessionist groups that caused a security breach in parts of the Volta Region last Friday.
It said the political parties must also support government’s efforts in dealing with the issues as a way of sending a clear message to the group that all the political parties in the country did not condone their activities which have the tendency to damage the peace, unity and security of the country.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu, stated this at a press conference yesterday regarding some developments in the Volta Region which occurred on the dawn of September 25, 2020.
He explained that what the secessionists had been doing did not have any place in a functioning democracy such as Ghana that boasted an enviable track record on the African continent and cautioned that it would be dangerous for any political party to act in a manner such as this to gain political capital out of it.
He said already some political parties were joining forces to present a united front to condemn the groups and expressed the hope that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would join so that they would present a united front.
“The usual tendency of political parties to attempt to make political capital out of every situation should be eschewed from this front. We should not joke with such things that border on our national security. This is not about the NPP; it is about the safety and security of every Ghanaian,” he added.

He commended all the traditional authorities and religious leaders and other Ghanaians who have condemned the actions of the group and urged the government to be resolute in dealing with it once and for all.
“As a responsible political party, we believe these are calls in the right direction. The NPP hereby condemns the acts of violence, attempts to attack sensitive installations and the attacks on security agencies under the guise of a secession movement,” Mr Boadu added.

He explained that the historical accounts showed clearly that the claims being made by the proponents of this agenda had got their facts totally wrong and also the geographic areas that the perpetrators sought to extend their activities to, in some cases even fell outside the original areas that were involved in uniting with Ghana.
He said the people who voted massively to join Ghana in the plebiscite voted to join forever and said almost all the prominent chiefs, as well as the Big Six witnessed the signing ceremony which took place on May 18, 1956.
“We stand ready to assist the Government, in any way we can, to engage in particular the youths of some of the towns mentioned as targets of the unfortunate acts, with a view to help build deeper understanding of the facts and the history to forestall any misinformation,” he added.
