Adhere to protocols to avoid COVID-19 — Mrs Oteng-Gyasi
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency, Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has urged residents of her constituency to abide by the laid down protocols aimed at protecting them against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
She urged them to practice social distancing, washing of hands regularly with soap under running water, use of hand sanitisers and avoid handshakes and reporting of suspected cases to negate the potential of community spread.

Mrs Oteng-Gyasi said this when she presented some personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Health Directorate to support it in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Safety
The items are to help ensure the safety of constituents, especially frontline health personnel, at the various health facilities in the area.
The PPE, worth GH¢100,000 included 1,000 nose masks, 1,000 hand gloves, 500 hand sanitisers, 500 liquid soaps,120 tissue papers, 100 Veronica buckets, 100 washing bowls and 20 tables.
Aside that, 200 Veronica buckets, liquid soap, sanitisers and tissue paper were also distributed to the various communities.
The MP, who is also the Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, also presented GH¢10,000 for education and awareness creation through community sensitisation.
The gesture by Mrs Oteng-Gyasi was the second to the constituency to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. Previous beneficiaries were drivers’ unions, markets, security agencies and health facilities.
Salary
In March this year, she donated 50 per cent of her salary for the next three months (April, May and June), to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund established by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the fight against the virus and to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable
The legislator, who is seeking re-election in the upcoming general election slated for December 7 this year, reiterated the proactive measures the government had put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19.
They comprised closure of the country’s borders, restrictions of movement in some parts of the country and ban on public gatherings, adding that the government was doing all within its power to ensure public safety and protection of lives.
Measures
Receiving the items, the Municipal Health Director, Mr Emmanuel Tamakloe, expressed his gratitude to the MP and promised that his outfit would make sure the items were distributed to the appropriate health centres.
He disclosed that one out of the seven suspected cases recorded by the municipality had tested negative while the results of the rest were yet to be released.
