37-year-old tutor elected Presiding Member of Old Tafo Assembly

A 37-year-old tutor of Effiduasi Senior High School, Richard Appiah won the Presiding Member ( PM) position of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly when it was inaugurated on Thursday.

There were two other contestant Mr Ernest Owusu and Osman Mustapha.

In the first round of voting, Appiah had 14 votes whilst Owusu and Mustapha got six and five respectively.

The two realizing they could not make any significant impact withdrew and allowed Appiah to go unopposed where all 24 members voted YES

A Kumasi High Court Judge sworn the assembly members into office.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Ahomka Lindsay on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the 24-member Old-Tafo Municipal Assembly.

The impressive ceremony was attended by chiefs and people in the municipality and political party representatives including the Old Tafo constituency chairmen of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Ahomka Lindsay whilst reading President Akufo-Addo’s address appealed to the assembly to ensure compliance with building rules and regulations on the zoning and development of lands and ensure the lands were developed according to approved plans to avoid flooding and its accompanying loss of lives and properties.

The municipal assembly is made up of 16 elected members and eight government appointees.

Mr Lindsay stressed that good governance entails active participatory of the citizens in their assembly to improve infrastructure and good leadership.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Fred Obeng Owusu was of the belief that the assembly members would endorse peace and unity which he stressed was a hallmark in their quest to develop the municipality.
