The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Mustapha Gbande, and the National Organiser, Mr Joseph Yammin, have declared their intention to seek re-election in the party's December 19, 2026 national executive elections.
The two incumbent officers have picked nomination forms to retain their positions, citing their experience and contributions to the party's electoral success as reasons for seeking another term.
They made their intentions known at a media encounter at the party's national headquarters in Accra, where they highlighted the need for experienced party executives to strengthen the NDC's organisational structures ahead of the 2028 general election.
The NDC's national executive elections form part of its four-year internal reorganisation exercise.
Nominations closed
Nominations for the national executive positions opened on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 7 am and closed at 5 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The national congress, scheduled for December 19, will elect officers to lead the party for the next four-year term.
Mr Yammin said he had completed his nomination process and was awaiting confirmation of his opponents.
He described the 2028 general election as a challenging contest that would require experienced party officials capable of developing effective strategies and mobilising the party's structures.
He said he and Mr Gbande were seeking to remain in office to provide institutional knowledge and help sustain the government's agenda.
Experience counts
Mr Gbande said his decision to seek another term was informed by the fulfilment of his objective of helping the NDC return to power.
He recalled contesting the position four years ago without substantial financial resources but with a commitment to supporting the party's electoral campaign.
He praised President John Dramani Mahama's administration, particularly its infrastructure programme and the appointment of young people to leadership positions.
He also defended his public commentary on political opponents, insisting that his statements had been misrepresented.
Mr Yammin recounted his longstanding working relationship with Mr Gbande, saying their collaboration had helped them contribute to the party's campaign and electoral victory.
He said the party needed committed executives who would continue working at the organisational level, particularly as some experienced members might not be available for executive roles because of government appointments.
The aspirants
Mr Gbande is the NDC's Deputy General Secretary and also serves as Director of Operations at the Presidency. His experience in party administration and political mobilisation has been central to his role in the party's national leadership.
Mr Yammin is the party's National Organiser, responsible for coordinating its organisational activities and mobilisation. He previously served as Ashanti Regional Secretary, giving him experience in regional party administration before his elevation to the national executive.
Both men are seeking renewed mandates as the NDC prepares to consolidate its organisational strength ahead of the next general election.
