The exercise, which was observed to ensure sanity and the well-being of residents in the various communities, was undertaken by residents of Weija, Gbawe, Mallam and Oblogo, among others.

They cleared waste receptacles and choked gutters and also swept lorry stations, schools, hospitals and community centres in the various communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga South, Mr Jerry Acquaye Thompson, said it was an obligation for every Ghanaian to keep his or her environment clean and tidy.

“I expect all Ghanaians to join hands to support this worthy cause so as to ensure a healthy lifestyle among ourselves,” he stated.

Mr Thompson emphasised that people always looked up to the government to assist them in everything, including cleaning their environment, which he described as not the best.

He indicated that majority of Ghanaians were dying from malaria and cholera because “we don’t clean our gutters and weed our surroundings regularly”.
