EC's disqualification's part of my opponents' plot – Nana Konadu

The flagbaerer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has said her disqualification by the Electoral Commission (EC) from the December polls are parts of plots by her opponents to stop her in her fight against corruption.

According to her, her major conviction to form the NDP was to clean the rot in society and deliver the country from its current predicaments.

Addressing the Central Regional Queen Mothers’ Association in Cape Coast, Mrs Rawlings stressed the need for a collaborative effort with traditional authorities in order to achieve her goal.

The EC disqualified Mrs Rawlings from contesting the December polls on the premises that one of her endorsers was a voter who had been banned for the offence of multiple voter registration.

Another reason for her disqualification, according to the EC, was because she failed to provide the required number of people who needed to endorse her.

Meanwhile, the NDP has dragged the Commission to court over her disqualification.

The party wants the court to order the EC to rescind its decision and accordingly allow the applicant to stand for the December 7, 2016 presidential election.

The applicants are seeking 15 reliefs from the court and among them are a declaration that the EC’s acts and decision to disqualify Nana Konadu are “unfair, unreasonable, arbitrary, capricious and prejudiced against the applicants; not in accordance with due process of law and do not comply on the requirements imposed on the 1st Respondent by law”.
