E.T. Mensah blames Sam George for dwindling fortunes

The contest to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary in the Ningo Prampram Constituency is getting murkier by the hour with the incumbent Enoch Tei Mensah, aka E.T. Mensah, accusing his challenger of sabotaging him in the 2012 elections.

Mr Mensah is alleging that Sam George, whom he refers to as his "errand boy," was the cause of his dwindling fortunes in the 2012 elections.

He told Joy News that Mr George stole a document from his office and put a slant on it to create disaffection for him.

Ningo Prampram

According to him, Mr George went to tell the chiefs of Ningo that President J.E.A Mills had selected Ningo to be the district capital but he [ET Mensah] schemed to have the capital moved to Prampram.

The incumbent MP said the chiefs and people of Ningo bought into that propaganda and decided to vote against him.

Mr Mensah polled more votes in the 2008 elections than in 2012.

He has been in Parliament since 1996 and will be going for his sixth term. The Ningo-Prampram ‘Mugabe’, as critics call him, is blaming Mr George for the dwindling fortunes.

Parliamentary primary

He said Mr George would take the last position in the Parliamentary primary, his position as a presidential staffer notwithstanding.

"He only plays his politics on radio," Mr Mensah said.

But Mr George has said that Mr Mensah has served his term and must honourably resign.

"Our dear father E.T. Mensah has done a great service for the people of Ningo-Prampram. But we believe that his 20 years of service is enough for him to retire for someone like me with great ambitions to take over and continue the good work that he has done for us," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr George has been cleared to contest the November 7 primary.

There was a petition which attempted to disqualify him from contesting but after vetting yesterday, the presidential staffer was cleared to contest the elections.
