Don't speak evil of one another - Bawumia tells NPP supporters

Mahamudu BawumiaThe running mate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to members of the party not  to speak evil of one another since it leads to self destruction.

He pointed out that in as much as “we may have our differences there is no need to go public since a lot is expected from us as a formidable political party”.

He said the NPP had a strong message for Ghanaians and before this could be translated into governance, the party must be seen to be united and ready to take over the reins of power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by President John Mahama.

“We should demonstrate this by standing together and be united so that we are not cheated at the polling stations again”, he added.

Addressing members of the party in Wa in the Upper West Region as part of a “thank you tour”, Dr Bawumia, said “our opponents will try to divide us but remember the eleventh commandment of the Republican Party in the United States, when the late President Ronald Reagan was vying to become the flag bearer of the party, “thou shall not speak evil of another NPP person”.

He said the NPP, being democratic, believed in competition but this should not tear the party apart since Ghanaians had a lot of hope and confidence in the NPP to develop the country and manage the resources of the country in a prudent manner.

Touching on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the 2012 election petition, Dr Bawumia said, it was a surprise to many but despite that, something went wrong during the general election.

“We did not win a legal victory but I am totally sure that we won a moral victory that day”, he said amid thunderous applause from the party members.

He thanked all supporters of the party for their role in the election petition, especially in assembling pink sheets for evidence purposes.
