Deputy Minister apologises for using ‘foul’ language

Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Murtala Mohammed has apologised for his use of the word ‘bastard’ while on radio.

On Tuesday, an ostensibly bemused Murtala had dared Ernest Owusu-Bempah, Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party to prove an allegation that the Deputy Minister had previously been arrested in Nigeria for visa fraud.

While denying ever being arrested anywhere, ‘including Ghana let alone Nigeria’, he said failure on the part of Owusu-Bempah to substantiate the allegation would mean he is not the true child of his parents.

If you don’t expose me you are a bastard, he had dared his accuser while engaged in an argument on Asempa FM on Tuesday.

But a more sober Murtala on Wednesday said he had regretted his use of the offensive word and upon reflection, regrets the whole episode. He consequently apologised to listeners of the radio station.

Many, he said, had called him to counsel that he ignored Owusu-Bempah, and he agreed he could better invest his time.

Meanwhile Owusu Bempah, who had claimed he had documentary evidence to prove his allegation, has been asked by host of Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, KABA, (Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong) to submit same.

Owusu-Bempah and Murtala have dared each other to a radio encounter to end the spat.
