CPP, PNC asked to register presence at Talensi

The National Organiser of the People's National Convention (PNC), Mr Emmanuel Wilson Junior, has called on the leadership of the PNC and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) to register their presence in Talensi to ensure they win the seat for the PNC.

He said just as they did in Kumbungu to win the Kumbungu seat for the CPP, a similar strategy must be adopted to present a united front to campaign for the PNC parliamentary candidate in the Talensi by-election.

He said the candidate, Dr Micheal Wumbego, stood a better chance of winning the seat as he was a third- time contestant unlike the others, who are first timers. Mr Wilson said Dr Wumbego was also a grass-roots person who had the interest of the people at heart.
He said the previous Members of Parliament for the area had done nothing to contribute to the development of the area as they were only interested in serving their personal interests as well as those of their parties.

He said the abdication of the Member of Parliament for the area to become the Paramount chief of the area bore ample testimony to the fact that his personal interest was more paramount.
He said the least said about John Akolgo Tia, who had been the Member of Parliament for almost 12 years, the better, as the area had not seen any meaningful development during his tenure of office.

He called on the electorate to vote for Dr Wumbego in the upcoming by-election as he was the only credible candidate ready to serve above partisan considerations.
The PNC national organiser said this when he met regional and constituency executives of the party at Yameriga in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to make input into their campaign for the July 7 by-election.

The Regional Secretary of the PNC, Mr Henry Fatchu, said Dr Wumbego was the only candidate who cut across the political divide and the most credible candidate to win the election based on his past performance.
He said the PNC candidate was well-marketed as he had contested elections for three consecutive times and had most of his votes from floating voters as well as the supporters of other political parties.

Dr Wumbego said he was optimistic of becoming victorious in the by-election.
He said since the creation of the district more than 10 years ago, the area had not seen any meaningful development, which he attributed to poor leadership and said if he was elected, things would change for the better.
