CODEO to deploy 7,000 observers for December polls

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has said it will deploy about 7000 personnel across the country to monitor the upcoming polls.

The exercise, according to CODEO, is to ensure that the December 7 election would be transparent and also give credibility to the process.

The co-chair of CODEO, Prof. Miranda Greenstreet, disclosed this at the Coalition’s opening of a training workshop for 500 regional representatives in Accra on Thursday.

“We want them to understand a free, fair and transparent election process and also want them to observe things done at all the various levels,” Prof. Greenstreet told the media at the sidelines of the training workshop held in the capital.

The campaign activities for all parties contesting the crucial polls on December 7 have intensified with less than two months to the 2016 general election.

The largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is soliciting for votes from the electorate as it is projecting itself as the only party capable of removing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from power, while the governing party, the NDC, also remains focused on seeking re-election to continue its tenure for another four-year term.
