Campaign on issues — Osagyefo Agyeman Badu II

As the political season gathers momentum towards the November 7, 2016 polls, the Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has admonished the various political actors to campaign on issues to enable the electorate to make informed choices.

He said instead of attacking their opponents and adopting inflammatory statements that had the tendency to plunge the country into chaos, politicians who mounted platforms should rather educate the electorate on their policies and programmes.

The omanhene gave the advice when he welcomed the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to his Abampredease Palace at Dormaa Ahenkro last Saturday.

Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by a former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Kwaku Asoma Kyeremeh, some other former ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs).

Tolerance

He said it was important for politicians to tolerate opinions and views of their opponents once they were not calculated to tarnish the image of others.

“It is only when we do that that we can elect our leaders and come out of the exercise without blemish,” Osagyefo Agyeman Badu stated.

He added that even though chiefs were barred from engaging in partisan politics, it was their responsibility to offer advice to whoever would be elected as President to ensure the socio-economic growth of the country.

Nana Akufo Addo

For his part, Nana Akufo-Addo assured the omanhene, his elders and the people that he would consult traditional rulers should he win the November 7 elections to seek their views on national policies and programmes.

He said there was the need for governments to partner with traditional rulers to galvanise the people towards the implementation of policies and programmes in order to achieve the needed results.

Dormaa West

At separate functions at Nkrankwanta, Diabaa and Yaakrom as part of his tour, Nana Akufo-Addo called on Ghanaians to avoid tribal politics during the electioneering.

Such utterances, he said, could threaten the country’s peace and thus called on all to co-exist peacefully.

He thanked the people for the warm reception and asked them to support him to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which had not been able to use the available resources at its disposal to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.

Nana Akufo Addo asked the people to give the NPP another mandate since it was able to establish schemes such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) during President Kufuor’s administration among others to enhance the quality of lives of the people.

He appealed to them to vote for the party’s parliamentary candidates in the area to enable him to enjoy their support should he win the upcoming general election.
