Asenso-Boakye submits forms to contest Bantama

A Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye says he has gone through the mill and ready to represent and serve the people of Bantama as their member of Parliament.

The founding President of the Tertiary Institutions Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was submitting his nomination forms to contest the NPP primaries in Bantama when he passed the remark.

Addressing a large number of supporters, he said he was submitting the forms with a humble heart and an unwavering conviction that there was nothing more fulfilling than the honour to represent and serve one’s people.

This would be the third time Asenso-Boakye is trying to obtain the mandate but he said, “I am hopeful that this time around, I would have sufficiently earned their trust and confidence to merit an endorsement.”

He noted that Bantama had been very kind to him from birth and nurtured him into a person of value, with a sense of purpose and identity and recollected how he got a Rotary scholarship to study in America.

He said he took with him the virtues of kindness, compassion and communal spirit that permeate life in Bantama, adding that “I know of no other home than Bantama”.

NPP Work
Mr Asenso-Boakye from a very young age, immersed himself in the work of the NPP, firstly as a foot soldier in the constituency, then as a student activist and later the founding President of TESCON.

He recounted how he together with colleagues like John Krugu, Sefa Dwamena and Steve Amoah, led a massive drive to mobilize over 2,000 tertiary students in the Ashanti region to serve as polling agents in the three northern regions during the 2000 elections.

“A feat unparalleled in the history of student mobilization. I’m proud to see how TESCON has become; a vibrant and dynamic students’ arm of our party. Aside TESCON, I also had the honour to serve as a youth organizer for the then North America branch of the party”, he stated.

He said he was convinced that it was his dedication to duty and commitment to the party that endeared him to then NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to have him serve him as his political assistant.

Mr Asenso-Boakye said in appointing him as a deputy Chief of Staff, he believed that President Akufo-Addo had affirmed him as a person of tact, good judgment and discretion.

“This position, with its heavy responsibilities, has enhanced my capacity and prepared me adequately to serve the people of Bantama, both as a legislator and as an agent of development. I hope to discharge my duties diligently if and when given the nod”, he added.
