Akufo-Addo files nomination papers, says "Ghana will work again"

A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has filed his nomination papers for the party's presidential primary with the message "Ghana will work again".

Akufo-Addo, who filed the nomination papers on Monday at the NPP headquarters in Accra, said although life is hard under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, things will improve when the NPP is voted into office in 2016.

Akufo-Addo was the fourth person to file his papers.

Several NPP Members of Parliament accompanied Nana Akufo-Addo to the party office from his Nima residence close by.

Large numbers of elated NPP members and sympathisers also thronged the party headquarters in a show of support for his candidature.

Responding to the cheers of the crowd, Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to leading a united NPP, as a necessary condition for securing in the 2016 General Elections.

The NPP Presidential Candidate in the 2008 and 2012 elections was met at the conference room of the party by General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, who after studying the papers and acknowledging receipt of the GH¢75,000 filing fee, accepted the nomination documents as duly filed.

Akufo-Addo assured the General Secretary that he will abide by the rules and regulations of the primary, as set out by the party, and will also ensure that his supporters do likewise.

Addressing journalists gathered at the NPP headquarters, the former Foreign Affairs Minister stated that he could be trusted to serve the party well, stressing and he had the vision and experience to inspire and lead the NPP to victory in 2016.

"Ghana will work again under my leadership,” he emphasised.

Akufo-Addo reiterated his appeal to NPP supporters to be united into to wrest power from what he said was a clueless NDC administration in 2016.

He said: “Let’s get together and get Ghana working again.

"The NPP is coming back to power in 2016, to continue from where President Kufuor left off.

"Akufo-Addo is the man for the future. Come high, come low we're winning 2016."

Akufo-Addo was accompanied by his runningmate for the 2008 and 2012 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mustapha Abdul Hamid, Frema Opare Osei, and several MPs, including Hon. Sara Adjoa Safo, Hon. Daniel Titus Glover, Hon. Frank Annoh Dompreh, Hon. Isaac Asiamah, Hon. Henry Quartey, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and Hon. Gifty Klenam.
