Akufo-Addo assures cocoa farmers of mass spraying
The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured cocoa farmers of the revival of mass cocoa-spraying exercise.

He said the revival of the exercise would enable the youth to secure jobs.
He said cocoa farmers in areas such as Sefwi would, therefore, heave a sigh of relief as their yields would increase if he is elected the President of the nation.
“So, allow me to come and embark on my journey of prosperity and restoration of hope for Ghana. You had in the past voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but this time round just try and test me and I will deliver to your satisfaction,” Nana Akufo-Addo told the people.
He has, therefore, appealed to the cocoa farmers to vote massively for him in the 2016 presidential election.
Taking his campaign of the Western Region to the Sefwi area, which is noted for cocoa farming, Nana Akufo-Addo said cocoa farming, which is the hope of the people in Sefwi, is now experiencing a serious setback under the current government.
He said cocoa farmers are not reaping what they have sown because of the logistic difficulties facing the industry.
Rallies
The NPP leader addressed separate rallies at Sefwi Adabokrom, Esam, Juaboso and adjoining farming communities.
He promised that his government would revive the cocoa-spraying scheme that enabled farmers to increase their yield, thereby maximising their profit margins.
Nana Akufo-Addo was in the company of some of the party's bigwigs, including Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Mr Alan Kyeremateng, Madam Otiko Afisa Gyaba, the NPP women's organiser; Mr Francis Addai Nimoh, MP for Asante Mampong; Mr Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado Ketan; Dr Kwaku Afriyie, a former Minister of Health, and Mr Peter Mac-Manu, the party's campaign manager.
Journey of hope
Nana Akufo-Addo maintained that with the revival of the mass spraying, the youth would secure jobs to earn a good living.
He said the NDC under the late Prof. J.E.A. Mills doubted the ability of President Kufuor to redeem his promises but he was able to honour the promises to the admiration of majority of Ghanaians.
The NPP flag bearer reiterated that if voted into power, there would be full restoration of teachers and nurses’ allowances.
“We have the men and women who can discharge the job so give us the chance and you will not regret it and Ghana will take its proper position in the comity of nations.
“You will be provided with your water and electricity needs, among all other requirements,” he assured the gatherings.
“I am not anti-northerners”
The NPP leader dispelled rumours that he was anti-northerner and that an NPP government would have no sympathy for northerners.
Questioning the sense in that allegation, he said, “We are all Ghanaians so I don't think it makes sense for anyone to peddle this notion with the intention to malign me. It does not make sense,” he said.
He used the occasion to introduce the various parliamentary candidates for the constituencies in the area and urged the people to vote massively for them.
