Ahafo Ano North NDC primaries postponed to Sunday

The National Democratic Congress has rescheduled its parliamentary and presidential primaries in Ahafo Ano North to Sunday as a result of shortage of ballot papers.

Although the candidates had earlier agreed with the Electoral Commission to run photocopies for some polling stations to make up for the shortfall, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah, later refused to append his signature to the undertaking that will give the EC the go ahead.

Consequently, the district director of EC, Mrs Diana Owusu, had to postpone the election.

Per the EC list, there were supposed to be a little over 5,000 eligible voters. However, in the register brought by the party, eligible voters were 9,850 leaving over a 3,500 discrepancy.

Mrs Owusu said the ballots were being printed in Accra and should arrive by close of day for the election on Sunday.

Aside the shortage in the ballots, there were also spelling mistakes in the names of the candidates.

Mr Anarfi Mensah is contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Akwasi Adusei.
