Agona West Assembly owes contractors, suppliers GH¢3,753,534.97 - MCE

The Agona West Municipal Assembly owes contractors and suppliers to the tune of GH¢3,753,534.97 as of December 31, 2016, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, has disclosed.

According to her, the financial situation of the municipality was not the best as it posed a huge challenge to the assembly, a situation which needs a very prudent way to tackle.

Giving the breakdown, she noted that from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the assembly owes contractors a total of GH¢3,125,592.39, it owes contractors executing projects being funded from the Internally Generated Fund an amount of GH¢374,022.58, as well as land compensation totaling GH¢223,920.00.

General meeting

Mrs Marigold Assan disclosed this while addressing the first ordinary meeting of the 2nd session of the 7th assembly of the Agona West Municipal Assembly held at the Agona Swedru Town Hall.

She said as of June 20, 2017, the assembly had collected a total of GH¢662,593.42, representing 43 per cent of the estimated internally generated revenue, out of GH¢1,536,757.00 for the year 2017.

She indicated that an amount of GH¢515,467.00 was expended during the period under review out of a total of GH¢5,359,467.00 expected to be spent for the year by the assembly.

She added that the assembly had received an amount of GH¢276,997.91, being the 4th quarter release of the DACF, and further stated that management was yet to disburse the amount received as it would be judiciously disbursed.

Planting for Food and Jobs

According to the MCE, the government under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was very committed to increasing food for local consumption and export and creating employment for the youth, hence the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
