The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Mr Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, has been installed chief by the Aflao Traditional Council.
With the stool name Togbui Adzagba I, Mr Osei-Ameyaw is expected to spearhead the development of the Aflao Traditional Area and assist the traditional authorities in their bid to woo investors.
Mr Osei-Ameyaw, a businessman and politician, was born to Kwaku Osei, who traced his lineage to Gyakiti, Akwamu, in the Eastern Region and Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region; and Madam Florence Abutu Tettevie, who hailed from Aflao and Ada.
Outdooring
At an outdooring ceremony in Aflao at the weekend, Mr Osei-Ameyaw provided GH¢20,000 and 1,000 bags of cement as seed money for the construction of a resource centre in Aflao.
He said he was humbled by the honour done him, and promised to provide "knowledge and leadership," which will make the Aflao Traditional Area prosper.
He said as Ewes, they needed to eschew criminal tendencies and bring up their children on the right path and give them the right training.
He said he would work hard to ensure that criminal elements would have neither a place nor say in the affairs of the area, unless they repented and reformed.
Amenya Fiti
The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Togbui Amenya Fiti V, described Togbui Adzagba as a man of substance, and added that he was chosen because of his international business and political connections, as well as his demonstration of love for the people in the area.
He enumerated the various development projects Togbui Adzagba had undertaken, and recalled that it was through his instrumentality, as well as the effort of his late uncle, Linus Cofie, that the Makavo road was constructed.
He added that Togbui Adzagba could use his position to bridge the differences, if any, between Akans and the people of Aflao.
He also indicated that he had made available a large tract of land for the construction of the resource centre.
Sod cutting
At a sod-cutting ceremony for the commencement of work on the resource centre later, Togbui Fiti noted that Aflao was the only urban community without a senior high school, and called on citizens who hailed form the area to lend a hand to develop the town.
He announced that the Aflao Traditional Council had set aside a tract of land for the construction of a mausoleum to serve as the final resting place for the late BBC anchor, Komla Dumor.
Togbui Adzagba, who laid the foundation stone for the construction of the resource centre, expressed the hope that the traditional leaders would give him the necessary support to discharge his duties effectively.
He said he never forgot his roots when he lived abroad, and since his return, he had been with the people and offered the necessary assistance to help lift the people from poverty.
The resource centre, apart from having a hall for recreation and other social activities, would also contain a bank, an Internet cafe, a clinic and shops.
