AFAG condemns NPP’s boycott of vetting

“By extension, this decision is not complete, unless there is a total boycott of Parliament by the NPP until such a time that the case is determined by the Supreme Court,” the statement said.

It said the Chief Justice in whose jurisdiction the petition case was being heard was the same person who swore in President Mahama.

It questioned why the NPP had not contested the Chief Justice’s  legitimate obligation of swearing-in the President.

The statement said AFAG had a firm belief in the court and called on the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold same belief that “in all instances, the verdict of the court reflects the sovereign will of Ghanaians.”

In another development, a founder member of the NPP, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, has described the decision of the leadership of the party to boycott the parliamentary by-elections as illogical.

He said in an open letter that the NPP should direct its energies towards winning the 2016 elections and stop what he referred to as “self promotional gimmicks.”

According to him, the reasons cited by the party not to participate in the by-elections were illogical and nonsensical.

“Why not extend this illogical and nonsensical act by asking all the party’s MPs in all of the constituencies affected by the 4,700 polling stations cited in the Supreme Court petition to step aside from Parliament pending the determination of the case?” he asked.
