The 24 aspirants were disqualified because they did not complete their nomination process.

According to the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, Mr Mr Serebuor Quaicoo, the disqualified aspirants failed to meet the Commission’s deadline for the submission of the GH¢10,000 filing fees.

“When they submitted the nomination forms, 240 submitted but we were waiting for the issue about the deposits to be completed, but 24 of them did not come forward to continue with their deposits. So at the end of the day, the 24 people cannot be considered as duly nominated because they did not complete their nomination process,” he said.

He said all parliamentary aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) were able to complete their nomination process.

A total of 240 aspirants from 12 political parties filed to contest the 47 parliamentary seats in the region.

Nineteen were contesting as independent candidates. Both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party filed for each of the 47 slots.
