Volta Regional Hospital gets dialysis machines for treatment of renal ailments

Four dialysis machines have been installed at the Volta Regional Hospital for the treatment of renal ailments in the Volta Region.

The inauguration of  the machines, the first in the region, coincided with the celebration of World Kidney Day last Thursday.

The campaign for the dialysis machines was initiated by the Asogli Queenmothers Association of Ho in collaboration  with the hospital.

Donors

The dialysis machines were part of equipment donated by D.Med Healthcare AG Limited with support from the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) and 15 individuals and organisations from the region.

The individual donors included the Members of Parliament for Ho Central and Ho West, Benjamin Kpodo and Emmanuel Bedzrah respectively. The others were Ms Akorfa Dotse, Togbe Adzi Lakle Howusu XII, Justice Jones Dotse, Dr Eric Amakpa, Alex Dey and Joe Ayivor. The rest are Sebastian Bata, Mr Bob Coffie Dusu, Reverend Asunda and wife and Madam Grace Adzroe.

The organisations are the Ho Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme, Ho Municipal Assembly and ASTA Advertising Company.

GOIL donated an amount of GH¢28,000 for the procurement of a water treatment plant to facilitate the operation of the dialysis machines.

Inauguration

The Volta Regional Minister, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, expressed appreciation to all the benefactors and indicated that the support would help ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services in the area.

She said renal cases had been on the ascendancy in the region and that it had become a household discussion because of the heavy toll it had on families.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr John Tampouri, said the installation of the dialysis machine was timely.

The Queen of Ho-Dome, Mama Atrato II, said they were inspired to launch the campaign for renal treatment to bring treatment to the doorstep of the people.

Impact of lack of equipment

The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Joseph Nuertey, said the lack of equipment in the sector had led to the loss of lives.
