Unemployed man jailed for stealing

For conspiring to commit crime, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing, the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Forster Batsa, to 48 months’ imprisonment with hard labour. The court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Batsa’s accomplice, Daniel Tetteh, who is at large.

Detective Inspector S.K. Gavor, the prosecutor, told the court that the complainant, Kwabla Teye, is a businessman at Abanse, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo, and Batsa also lives in the same area.

He said on May 28, 2013,Teye went to his mobile phone shop at Abanse and realised that thieves had destroyed the wall, entered his shop and made away with one system unit, two monitors, two keyboards, one Multi-TV Decoder, three mobile phones and two Telco promotion phones.

The prosecutor said Teye started his own investigations and in no time, spotted Batsa offering a DVD deck to his friend in his house. He became suspicious and questioned Batsa, who took to his heels.

He was, however, chased by sympathisers and arrested.

Batsa, Detective Inspector Teye said, was then taken to his room and Teye’s stolen items were found there.

When Batsa was questioned, he mentioned Tetteh as the one who brought the items to him for safe keeping.

The prosecutor said not satisfied with Batsa’s explanation, Teye handed him over to the police at Nuaso.
