Three health institutions receive sterilisation equipment

A Ghanaian medical specialist based in the United States of America, Baffour Dr Kwabena Asare-Bediako, has donated five sterilisation equipment (autoclaves) to three institutions at a ceremony in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The beneficiary institutions include the Koforidua Regional Hospital (that received three), St Joseph's Orthopaedic Hospital also in Koforidua and Village of Hope at Gomoa East, Central Region, received a piece of the equipment each.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Family Health Centre in Worcester in the United States of America which provides health care in the areas of eye care, dental care, mental health, among others, Madam Frances M Anthes, joined Baffour Asare-Bediako to mobilise resources for the purchase of the equipment worth $3,000.

Speaking on behalf of Baffour Dr Asare-Bediako during the presentation, the Nifahene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Okoawia Dwomo Baabu II, expressed happiness that the Koforidua Regional Hospital continued to benefit from the good initiative of the benefactor.

He recalled that two years ago Baffour Dr Asare-Bediako, who is also a sub-chief of the traditional area, presented an X-ray machine and various medical consumables to the Regional Hospital as part of his support.

Hope for more support

Okoawa Baabu, who is also the Chief of Effiduase in the New Juaben Municipality, expressed the hope that the hospital would be receiving more assistance from the benefactors.

"I am personally pleased to be associated with this community improvement initiative because it is a key role of traditional rulers to ensure the well-being of the elders and people of the traditional area under their jurisdiction. I hope that this equipment will be put to good use to improve the healthcare delivery in this area," he added.

The Managing Director of Intravenous Infusions Limited, Mr Richard Okrah, who is a brother of Baffour Dr Asare-Bediako, said the donation was his brother’s contribution to the health needs of the people.

The Medical Director of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, Dr K. Anim-Boamah, who received the equipment on behalf of the three institutions, thanked Baffour Dr Asare-Bediako for his continuous support and said the equipment would be put to good use.
