Junior doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have called off an indefinite strike action started Tuesday after government released money to settle their nine months salary arrears.
The CEO of KATH, Dr Joseph Akpaloo returned from Accra Wednesday afternoon with a bulk cheque which enabled the hospital to issue the striking doctors with individual cheques.
The president of the House officers, Dr Michael Boateng, told Daily Graphic ‘we have called off the strike because we all have our cheques in our hands.’
‘With this, each and every one of us is reporting to work tomorrow. Indeed, those who are supposed to be on duty will have to start work immediately,’ Dr Boateng said.
The House officers withdrew their services Tuesday to demand the payment of their salaries which have been in arrears for nine month.
Some of the doctors locked their consulting rooms and refused to attend to patients and not even the wailing of some pregnant women could force them to rescind their decision.
The hardest hit was the obstetrics and gynecology unit of the hospital.
