The Methodist Ministers' Spouses Association of the Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana has donated medical equipment to the Tema General Hospital to support facilities at the children's ward of the hospital.
The items, worth GH¢4,000, included two electronic suction apparatus, two compressor nebulisers, biscuits and fruit drinks.
The suction machine is a portable medical apparatus used in wards or theatres to help the users in aspirating fluids and vomit from the mouth and airways, while the compressor nebuliser system converts liquid medication into a mist so it can be easily and more effectively inhaled through a mask or mouthpiece, just by breathing naturally.
Church's contribution
The President of the association, Mrs Faustina Forson, said the items were the church's contribution to the upkeep of the patients in the hospital, especially the children.
She also said the association interacted with the hospital and found that the hospital lacked some essential equipment such as suction apparatus and compressor nebuliser, hence the move to purchase some for the hospital.
Mrs Forson expressed the hope that the items would impact positively on the lives of both the patients and the hospital.
Social responsibility
The Bishop of the Tema Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt Rev. Thomas Brown Forson, said the gesture was a social responsibility by the church to comfort the children.
He said the church would continue to support the community through such initiatives as a way of fostering a better church-state partnership to ensure development.
Appreciation
A Senior Staff Nurse at the hospital, Ms Georgina Addison, who received the items, thanked the church for the gesture and assured the donors that their items would improve health delivery in the hospital.
Members of the association were later conducted round the ward and they prayed for both patients and health workers on duty.
