The matriculants took the matriculation oath and signed the matriculation register supervised by the Register of the College, Patrick Kuma.
At the event which was also attended by faculty members, academic staff members, students and alumni, the President of the College, Prof. Stephen Alder declared the matriculants as new members of the college as they signed the matriculation register and their matriculation confirmed, adding “you have adopted the moniker of being an Ensonian”.
He said as Ensonians (members of Ensign Global College), the matriculants were encouraged to follow the pillars of the institution which included leadership, professionalism and entrepreneurship.
“As you have been enrolled, I urge you to see the potential in everyone and to show respect and kindness to each other. Make the most of your experience at Ensign Global College to enable you to develop greater capacity to effectively practice public health”, Prof. Alder advised.
He said as the first cohort of students to join the institution after it successfully received Council on Education for Public Health accreditation which was recognised worldwide, the students must live up to expectations in their academic world in order to be quality and qualified Public Health practitioners when they were done with the course.
In response, two of the matriculants, Dr Joshua Tetteh Ahuahey and Irene Dziedzorm Ahiakpor, on behalf of their colleagues, pledged to management of the college that they were going to study and make a positive impact on society with regard to the Public Health Education they had embarked on.
They said public health challenges were many, complex and multifaceted and it was only through working together as a team that they could develop effective solutions, adding “let us all inspire each other, strive for excellence for the betterment of our communities and the world where health is a universal right, not a privilege”.
Leadership positions
In a welcome address, the Vice-President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Gladstone Elikem Doh, said the role of the SRC in championing the cause of the students in collaboration with the faculty, registry and management in general to create wonderful graduate experience could not be underestimated.
Mr Doh encouraged the matriculants to work together and be bold to take up leadership positions when their time was due for the college’s positions.
