The lectures will form part of the three-day congress that will offer opportunity for about 400 members of the association to be updated on their operations and look at the way forward.

Beside inviting the Vice Dean of the School of Medical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Francis Agyemang-Yeboah, to speak on the theme: “Ensuring effective management of medical laboratory services in a regulated environment,” three prominent scientists from the United States of America, including two Ghanaians, will also be in Tamale to give various lectures on sensitive topics to galvanise members to improve on their services.

The three are: Professor Solomon Ofori-Acquah, Director, Centre for Translational and International Haematology, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Professor Kweku Ohene-Frimpong, Emeritus Director, Comprehensive Sickle Cell Centre, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania, USA, and Ms Connie Lien Adams, Director, Global Health Partnership, Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute, USA.

Annual affair

Briefing the Daily Graphic on the congress in an interview in Accra, the General Secretary of GABMLS, Mr Michael Amo Omari, said as an annual affair, the congress had become the main platform where they listen to lectures to broaden their horizon and also brainstorm on sensitive issues and come out with policies and programmes that impact positively on their operations.

“We also come out with a communiqué aimed to influence policy makers to take decisions that will enhance quality health care delivery in the country,” he explained.

“This congress is very unique because it is packed with a lot of key topics and new developments likely to be very beneficial to members, hence the need for them to attend in their numbers,” he noted.

He also mentioned their commitment to promote quality medical laboratory services in the country and therefore appealed to the media to provide the needed support that would sustain their operations.
