The equipment which comprised 10 armpit clutches, a 40-inch television set and two wheelchairs are to support the hospital in taking care of the patients as well as educate and entertain them while in the hospital.

The donation was in response to a request made to the bank by the hospital.

Presentation

Making the presentation on the premises of the hospital, the Koforidua Area Manager of the company, David Amevor, said the gesture formed part of the bank's corporate social responsibility for people in its catchment areas.

Mr Amevor stated that the hospital was facing equipment deficit, particularly in the area of diversional therapy.

“Our company’s contribution of this much-needed essential hospital equipment is to support your worthy cause, which was brought to our attention and we are delighted to hear that this contribution will support you to save lives and provide better health care for patients,” Mr Amevor said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Health Nurses Director,  Beatrice Addai Kwaning, commended the financial institution for its assistance and appealed to other private sector institutions to emulate ASA's example.

She was worried about superstition and cultural beliefs which she said delayed patients from seeking prompt medical care leading to most of them having to have their limbs amputated.

According to her, such cases particularly involving children must be sent to the hospital on time to avert the possibility of amputation.

She thanked the company for its help to the hospital.

The St Joseph Hospital is a primary healthcare facility which deals with orthopaedics and traumatology, general medicine, surgery, public health, eye care, obstetrics and gynaecological services as well as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT).
