The 22 nurses are being trained as part of a programme to equip and prepare them with the necessary skills to take up various positions at the new University of Ghana Teaching Hospital, which is modelled along the lines of the Sheba/Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The nurses who have various specialization backgrounds are the second batch of Ghanaian health professionals to be trained by the authorities of the Sheba Hospital. Earlier in April, 2015, 17 medical doctors were at the facility for a similar intensive programme.

Ambassador Ernest Lomotey urged the visiting nurses to take full advantage of the training, learn and adopt the excellent medical practices, strict work ethics and commitment that the Israeli health officials follow, and to replicate same at the new hospital in Ghana.

The Ambassador who was accompanied by the Minister Counsellor, Mr. Amanor Daku Mante and the Consular Officer of the Embassy, Mr. Joshua Anyimiah was also requested by the Sheba Hospital authorities to present certificates to four (4) of the trainees who had completed their programmes, namely, Mrs Ruby Ansah who studied Nursing Management and Outpatient Clinics, Mrs Judith Naa-Klorkor Asiamah – Nursing Management, Mrs Grace Enatweba Anyomi – Nursing Management and Mrs Sylvia Agyeiwaa Acheampong who also trained in Nursing Management and Central Sterilization Services at the Sheba Centre.

The Vice President of International Affairs, Medical Research and Infrastructure Fund of the Sheba Medical Centre, Dr. Zaidise Itzhak, expressed happiness about the cordial relationship between Ghana and Israel, especially in the medical field, which he said has resulted in the ongoing programme for Ghanaian health professionals.

He also expressed his happiness about the professionalism, humility and hard work of the Ghanaian health officers who are training with the centre.

Dr. Itzhak disclosed that another batch of about 20 Ghanaian nurses are expected to train at the hospital in January 2016, and further indicated that the centre will continue to support and train Ghanaian health professionals to make the new University of Ghana Teaching Hospital the premier in the sub region.
